Attorney Morris is one of the small percentage of criminal defense lawyers to have qualified to be designated as a Criminal Law Specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and his abilities as a criminal defense lawyer have been recognized by his fellow attorneys. Through peer rating he has earned the coveted AV rating from the Martindale Hubbell legal directory; is listed in the publication, The Best Lawyers in America; and has been named as one of Texas's Super Lawyers by the Texas Monthly Magazine.

Fellow criminal defense attorneys have chosen Attorney Morris for leadership roles within the legal profession. He was elected to serve as President of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association during the 1997-98 term and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also served as chair of the Criminal Law and Procedure Section of the Travis County Bar in 1987, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Austin Criminal Defense Lawyers Association
